i thought this *was* zimmy until i read all the other comments speculating about who it is, i’m still not totally convinced it’s not

That is DEFINITELY Zimmy. She explained the Ether to Annie in much the same way. Which begs the question, how old is she, really? (and are people going to start yelling abt shipping her and Gamma being "problematic"...)

No little omega thing in the corners? Do they mark individual scenes/memories like the things that hold pictures in really old photo albums? Don't know if it's intentional but I like how her eyes look inverted/glowing at first glance. This reminds me of SCP-4336 where Madame Blavatsky, Alexander Graham Bell, and other real life spiritualists try to save President Garfield with experimental ætheric devices, based on the true story of Bell using an experimental metal detector to find the assassin's bullet but had to give up because the bed's metal parts made the device useless.

Perhaps the good Doctor needs to increase the field-strength of his Tesla generators, thus modifying the Phlogiston around his patient for her metaphysical humor and health. At least we haven't seen the leeches and that old-fashioned belief that "bad blood" is the cause of all disease!

From the art clues (clothing, monacle, medical technology, etc.), this flashback is probably set in the 1800’s. That is much too late for Omega to be Seed Bismuth, and too early to be Zimmy. However, Omega could be one of Zimmy’s greater grandparents—or simply an egg donor. They don’t look enough alike for Zimmy to be Omega’s clone. It would be cool if Omega were already a nu-man, but I suspect she only has human form in Zimmy’s world. Interesting stuff, Tom—thank you!

I'm guessing this is a different character, who was split into Omega and Zeta (aka Zimmy). Omega was the goal, and Zimmy was the unwanted leftovers.

hm Zimmy said before that people could be split or merge in the ether world right? could one of the split people be younger than the other, and multiple iterations of this lead to some version of them living much longer than they normally would?

So sidestepping the fact this girl has the exact same cats' eye eyeliner, eyebrows, and hairline as Omega in the previous chapter, and that this chapter is literally names Omega, AND that Zimmy has never shown an affinity with animals, we know from the Zimmy side comic that she met Gamma before they went together to the Court. Gamma is not in this flashback. This is not Zimmy. Like how are people still debating this

he does seem like a friend, but i dont like the way he said calling it the ether was "too imprecise" for him. gives me some Shadow Men and general Court vibes with always wanting the ether and such to be better explained. he did offer to bring one of her crows so she could speak easier, and seems genuinely empathetic to her pain and making her comfortable, but... idk. "some of the worst things imaginable have been done with the best intentions" and all that. this doesnt look like a particularly friendly room. his way of "helping" her may still be ultimately for the benefit of the Court, especially with how she looks in the last page of the previous chapter.

I wonder if the whole Omega Plan is really centered around getting this girl to a place with no ether, where she theoretically won't be overwhelmed? It seems like a lot, I know, but the whole point of the robots was to try to amuse/woo Jean. Zimmy could be an altered clone from a time when the project sought to find a way for Omega to live in the world, since Zimmy has both Gamma and natural rain that give her release from her etheric condition, but when neither of those actually cured her (or the others from Chester, who eventually disappeared) that aspect of the project was abandoned, which is when Zimmy and Gamma started being free to do whatever they want, and all effort was put into the project to get non-etheric humans off planet, resulting in all the ether-calming properties being sucked out of the rain.
