Amazing use of color! Interesting that we can see most of the background for Kat, it's usually pitch black in the æther.

This is Kat's visualization of of Omega's interior space. So a parallel port is just her mind's translation for "high speed I/O place". I wonder how Annie would see it?

I wonder if Kat's little polygonal form is just temporary. I wonder if it'll change into something more typical of the ether as Kat gets used to her new abilities. Or is Kat considered something altogether new?

Seeing something as pedestrian as a D-sub connector, even one with a non-standard pin count, in an otherwise escapist comic felt odd.

Whoa, this page raises more questions than it answers! How did Kat travel to the Omega machine's location? Wouldn't Omega have instantly known about it? Can she send her virtual sprite into the real world as well as the ether. in which case she would have been invisible to Omega? Or is this forbidding chamber all in a virtual space, probably also invisible to Omega? Or all of the above? Is VR in the same dimension as the ether in this cosmos, or another pocket space? Deep questions....

After win98 they shutdown direct access to writing and reading from parallel ports. So either she is running on old windows or she is Linux based OS

The parallel reference made me laugh, good one, but then I could not help but notice the pin count is incorrect. Connector shown as 19 pins, which is not a standard size. Parallel ports used DB-25 (25 pins). I suppose the court has a lot of non-standard hardware.

BOOO. As a computer nerd I approve of this pun. (Parallel ports of this particular configuration do actually exist, too, though I don't think they're especially common; DB-25 is, I think, the parallel port most people who know what a parallel port is are used to seeing.)

There seems to be a couple of computers requiring lot of power: Anja's amazing computer (Pages 517, 1017), Kat's computer (Page 2755) and the Omega device. The first two are at a safe location; Annie and Paz needed access granted to get there. Not sure whether the distortion undermined this security (Page 2981) but Kat reached the highly secure location of the Omega device fairly easily.

20 Jun 2025 | 12:14 PM

Shouldn't that be a serial port? Parallel ports were usually used to connect peripherals (scanners, printers). USB, ethernet and wifi eventually replaced it. Serial ports are still found on some servers, particularly 'headless' (no display, etc) ones so you can connect another computer in case of problems (the terminal), and communicate via a command line. But this had to have been a custom computer. The parallel port allows simultaneous 2-way communications, so it would be interesting to see the original interface that was used until Omega became interconnected with everything.
If the court is analytical philosophy (physicalism, logic), what is the forest/ether? Not continental philosophy. Since the two are being bridged... this is always an interesting story, and watching it unfold is a pleasure.
